Liberation in Christ, Liberation in Spirit, Liberation of our community, Liberation for our neighbor.
We worship a Jesus who is the breaker of chains. The arc of the gospel narrative and scripture itself is a grace filled God who has liberated oppressed peoples throughout all of human history. So we focus on liberation of our spirits, of our community, and of our neighbor.
Using a holistic vision, every piece of the program year interlocks with every other while reinforcing the teachings of each educational program — called a shule, Swahili for school — and the efforts of each ministry kabila, Swahili for tribe.
Three liberations
Liberation of Spirit
The inward work. Worship, scripture, prayer, and the long business of being unchained from what we have been told about ourselves.
Liberation of Community
The work we do together. Bible study, dinner church, the shared meal and the shared argument, the congregation as a body rather than an audience.
Liberation of Neighbor
The outward work. Social justice strategy, teach-ins, and a commitment to East New York that does not stop at our own door.
